Cyromazine

- Jan 05, 2018 -

1.Product Introduction

Cyromazine is a triazine insect growth regulator used as an insecticide and an acaricide. It is a cyclopropyl derivative of melamine. Cyromazine works by affecting the nervous system of the immature larval stages of certain insects.

In veterinary medicine, cyromazine is used as an ectoparasiticide.

2.Use Pattern And Formulation

A. Application Site: Feed through for poultry - caged layers only. The active ingredient is passed through the chicken, leaving a residue in the manure that controls the growth of the fly larvae developing there.

Type of Formulation: Premix - a coarsely ground powder Application Rates: Mix 1 lb of Larvadex (0.3% Premix) per ton of feed for control of housefly and soldier fly; for lesser.housefly, mix 3.33 lbs of Larvadex (0.3% Premix) per ton of feed.

B. Application sites- Celery and lettuce Type of Formulation, Wettable Powder - this product is only packaged  in 2 lb. water soluble bags Application Rates - One 2 lb. package mixed in the appropriate amount of water will treat 12 acres - this is 1/6 lb. Trigard 75W per acre.

3.Uses

As an insect growth regulator, cyromazine is fed to caged poultry and is passed through the chicken, leaving a residue in the manure. The chemical controls the growth of the fly larvae developing in the manure. Used as a foliar spray to control leaf miners in vegetables, mushrooms, potatoes and ornamentals and to control flies on animals.

4.Incompatibilities

Incompatible with oxidizers, acids, acid chlorides, acid halides, isocyanates, halogenated organics, peroxides, phenols (acidic), epoxides, anhydrides. Contact with strong reducing agents such as halides may generate explosive a flammable gas.

5.Pharmacokinetics

Cyromazine is rapidly absorbed following oral administration, with most of the dose excreted in urine within 3 d. At low doses, coadministration with food results in loss of efficacy. However, at higher doses this effect is less clinically relevant.

6.Adverse effects

Despite an apparently high margin of safety for cyromazine, when combined with DEC for daily administration, serious and life-threatening adverse effects have been encountered, although the mechanism of these effects is unclear.

7.Structure and properties

Etoxazole, buprofezin and cyromazine are three of the non-BPU CSIs that have been successfully used as insecticides (Fig. 6.17). They have been assembled together because of their common characteristic of interfering with moulting and chitin formation.

8.Routes of Entry

Inhalation, passing through the skin, ingestion
