How to Use Glucose Solution Commonly Used in Cattle Disease Treatment?

- Sep 13, 2018 -

In the treatment of various diseases of cattle, glucose solution is commonly used for intravenous injection. Glucose injection has the functions of liver protection, detoxification, cardiac stimulation, diuresis, swelling, and body fluids. However, some farmers are free to use glucose solution for infusion treatment regardless of the severity of the disease or injection after the disease. This is unscientific, and it is also an incomplete understanding of pharmacological knowledge of veterinary drugs.

Glucose solution is divided into three types of isotonic solution, infiltration solution and hypertonic solution. Different concentrations, dosages, and usages should be used according to the type of livestock and disease.

Isotonic Solution: 5% Glucose Injection is an isotonic solution and is a supplement for body fluids. It mainly treats dehydration in domestic animals such as sweating and diarrhea. After entering the blood circulation, glucose is quickly used, losing its original permeability properties and supplying moisture to the body. Dosage and usage: pigs, sheep 250 ~ 500 ml, cattle, horses, donkeys, quail 1000 ~ 3000 ml, dogs 100 ~ 500 ml, 1 intravenous injection.

Infiltration solution: 10% to 20% of glucose injection solution for infiltration. It is mainly used for protection of liver, detoxification, serious illness, prolonged illness, frailty, and energy supply of surgical animals in various poisoned livestock. Dosage and usage: pigs, sheep 100 ~ 200 ml, cattle, horses, donkeys, quail 500 ~ 2500 ml, dogs 50 ~ 250 ml, 1 intravenous injection.

Hypertonic solution: 50% glucose injection hypertonic solution. As a drug to relieve edema, it is mainly used for brain edema and pulmonary edema in livestock; As a supplemental blood glucose drug for piglet hypoglycemia; it can also be used as sheep, horses, donkeys and other livestock's pregnancy toxemia treatment drugs. Dosage and usage: pigs, sheep 20 ~ 100 ml, cattle, horses, donkey 100 ~ 500 ml, 1 intravenous injection.

1. When using 5% glucose injection, do not over-inject too much, because in the absence of supplemental sodium, an overdose can cause water intoxication, resulting in hypoosmotic, tissue cell edema.

2. When using 50% hypertonic glucose injection, it should be used alone, and it should not be combined with any injection to ensure the effectiveness of hypertonicity.

3, In cold weather or winter, for cold diseased livestock applications, should be warmed, so that its temperature and body temperature consistent, so as not to cause chills.

Glucose solution can also be used on other poultry or livestock. If you want know more details, inquiry or email us.
