Application of Cephalosporins

This class of drugs is a broad-spectrum fungicide, strong bactericidal, able to resist penicillin enzyme, low toxicity, causing a lower incidence of allergic reactions than penicillin. Its structure is similar to that of penicillin and is a semi-synthetic antibiotic. It is made by cephalosporin C catalyzed hydrolysis produced by cephalosporins, and then chemically synthesized by adding different side chains to the mother nucleus to obtain cephalosporins I, II, III, IV, V and other drugs.

Cephalosporin I sodium

Characters: This product is a white crystalline powder, soluble in water, hygroscopicity, and yellowing color for a long time, but it does not affect its efficacy and does not increase its toxicity. If it becomes yellow after dilution, it cannot be used. Should be sealed, protected from light and stored in a dry place.


Function and use: The mechanism of action is similar to that of penicillin and can inhibit the synthesis of bacterial cell walls. Stronger against Gram-positive bacteria, including penicillin-resistant strains; effective against Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus, pneumococcus; against gram-negative bacteria such as Listeria, Pasteurella multocida, E. coli and Salmonella also have good efficacy; Leptospira are also sensitive to this product. However, it is not effective against Pseudomonas aeruginosa, aerobic bacilli, Mycobacterium tuberculosis, fungi, mycoplasma, viruses and protozoa. This product is not easily absorbed by oral administration and absorbed well after intramuscular injection. After intramuscular injection of 10 mg per kilogram of body weight, the plasma concentration reached a peak (18 micrograms per milliliter) in half an hour, and the half-life was 16 minutes to 54 minutes. The body was widely distributed and most of them were excreted in prototype form. This product is mainly used in drug-resistant Staphylococcus aureus and some Gram-negative bacteria caused by serious infections, such as respiratory tract, urinary tract infections and Staphylococcus aureus, E. coli infection.

Adverse reactions This product is low in toxicity, but long-term use can cause acute renal failure. In addition, there may be cross-allergic reactions with penicillin.


Preparation dosage Powder injection: 0.5 grams per bottle, valid for one and a half years. Intramuscular injection: poultry 10 mg per kilogram of body weight twice a day.


Cephalosporin II (cefteliline)

Characters: This product is white or colorless powder, soluble in water, should be sealed, protected from light and stored in a dry place.


Function and useThis product has the same antibacterial spectrum as cephalosporin I sodium, but it has strong antibacterial activity against Gram negative. Oral absorption is not, after intramuscular absorption, the blood concentration is slightly higher than cephalosporin I sodium, and the use is the same.


Adverse reactions: This product is more toxic to the kidneys, and poultry with renal insufficiency should be used with caution. In order to avoid increased toxicity to the kidney, it cannot be used in combination with gentamicin.


The amount of preparation is the same as the cephalosporin I sodium, but the course of treatment should not exceed 7 days.

Cephalosporin IV

Characters: This product is white or light yellow crystalline powder, soluble in water.


Function and use: The antibacterial spectrum of this product is the same as that of cephalosporin I sodium. It is characterized by easy absorption after oral administration. Chickens take 25 mg, 35 mg, and 50 mg per kilogram of body weight internally. The blood drug concentration reaches a peak after 30 minutes to 60 minutes ( An average of 20 micrograms per milliliter), half-life of 30 minutes to 126 minutes, after treatment 2 hours and 5 hours and a half hours, the body can still be measured drugs, the body metabolism is less, mainly in the original form from the urine. Its use is the same as cephalosporin I sodium.


Adverse reactions: Poultry with severe renal impairment should be appropriately reduced.


The amount of preparation powder: The amount of poultry for oral administration is 35 mg to 50 mg per kg body weight, the small poultry is 2 hours to 3 hours, and the poultry is 6 hours.

Usage and Dosage: Intramuscular or subcutaneous injection: Once in a single dose, dog and cat 50 mg per kilogram body weight twice daily.

Usage and dosage: Intravenous, intramuscular or subcutaneous injections: Once in a single dose, dogs and cats 25 mg to 50 mg/kg body weight 3 times daily.
